Description:
Applications are invited for a PhD studentship available in the Neuropragmaticsand Emotion Lab (www.mcgill.ca/pell_lab) at McGill University beginningSeptember, 2007.
The appropriate student will share general research interests with members ofthe lab which touch on the communication of emotion or attitudes in the humanvoice and/or through spoken language. The recipient will be expected to applyand register for a PhD in the School of Communication Sciences and Disorders atMcGill University (Montréal, Canada) and will be supervised by Dr. Marc Pell.
Applicants must possess a first-class honours degree (minimum Bachelor-levelequivalent) in Linguistics, Psychology, Communication Disorders, or a relateddiscipline, preferrably with courses in psycho/neuro-linguistics. The specificresearch focus should be developed by the student but will probably centre ondefining acoustic, perceptual, and/or neuro-cognitive components forunderstanding or expressing emotive qualities in speech during naturalcommunication; disorders of emotive communication following acquired braindamage; or the influences of emotion and affect on normal and/or disorderedlanguage processing.
Funding is for a maximum of three years and will consist of an annual stipend ofCAD $20,000 plus support for presenting work at research meetings.
