Description:
The Linguistics Department at Georgetown University invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position in its sociolinguistics concentration. The ideal candidate will be familiar with a range of conceptual, analytical and methodological approaches to language and social interaction; have a strong record of scholarship analyzing language in context; and be interested in applying the results of those analyses to 'real world' issues and problems. Areas of specialization might include but are not limited to: language and the professions (e.g. law, government, business); classroom discourse, including multilingual interaction and (multi)literacies; media discourse; minority languages and dialects; gender and language; pidgins and creoles; language socialization in and outside of school; or child discourse. PhD must be in hand by August 2007.
