Subject: Meanings of Particles in Phrasal Verbs
I'm doing some work on children's comprehension of phrasal verbs. I'm sureI've heard about work looking at the meanings of the particles - e.g. 'up'in 'drink up', 'write up', 'dream up', 'pay up' adding a sense offinished-ness or outcome to the meaning of the verb - but I'm having realtrouble locating it. Database searches have brought up little so far excepta couple of articles in ELT journals which mention the meanings ofparticles very briefly in a teaching context. Does anyone have any ideaswhere to look/ who has worked on this?
Many thanks, Alison Crutchley
