Translation and metacognition are both fuzzy concepts. Amalgamating thesetwo is even fuzzier. Nevertheless, it is only through research that somelight can be reflected upon these fuzzy areas. This research is an attemptto discover a framework for generating translation metacognitive strategiessince this special domain of translation has not been extensively discussedin the literature. Having discovered these strategies, the researcher hasinvestigated the impact of diverse varaiables on the use of translationmetacognitive strategies. The participants of the study who have taken partin different phases of this survey are 62 undergraduate students majoringin English Language Translation at the Islamic Azad University, TehranCentral Branch. The data elicitation technique used in this study is'think-aloud.' The variables whose impact on the use of translationmetacognitive strategies has been investigated are the IQ level, theEnglish language proficiency level, the text type and the test type.Chi-square analysis is used to study the impact of these variables on theuse of translation metacognitive strategies. The results of the studyindicate that neither the English language proficiency level, nor the texttype has a significant impact on the use of translation metacognitivestrategies. However, test type seems to have a significant impact on theuse of these strategies. Moreover, the IQ level seems to have a significantimpact on the use of metacognitive strategies when the participants aretranslating from English into Persian. The last research question aims atinvestigating whether conciousness-raising regarding the use of translationmetacognitive strategies enhances the translation ability. to answer thisquestion, a t-test is carried out. Subsequently, the corresponding nullhypothesis cannot be rejected. The results of this study would contributeto any translation-related field, paving the way for further research inthis blurred field of translation in general and of metacognition inparticular.
