The Chinese Lexical Semantics Workshop is initiated by Chin-chuan Cheng Academician from The Institute of Linguistics in Academia Sinica and Prof. Yu Shiwen from The Institute of Computational Linguistics of Peking University together from Year 2000. The previous conferences have been held in different Asia Pacific cities: Hong Kong, Beijing, Taipei, Singapore and Xiamen. CLSW has become one of the most important meetings in Asia for scholars of Chinese Lexical Semantics and related fields, such as Theoretical Linguistics, Information Processing and Computational Lexicography. The aim of CLSW-08 is to bring together researchers interested in any aspect of Chinese lexical semantics.

The 8th Chinese Lexical Semantics Workshop (8th CLSW-2007) will be held on May 21-23, 2007 at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong. The previous conferences have been held in different Asia Pacific cities: Hong Kong, Beijing, Taipei, Singapore, Xiamen, and Hsin Chu. CLSW has become one of the most important meetings in Asia for scholars of Chinese Lexical Semantics and related fields, such as Theoretical Linguistics, Information Processing and Computational Lexicography.

The aim of the 8th Chinese Lexical Semantics Workshop (8th CLSW-2007) is to bring together researchers interested in any aspect of Chinese lexical semantics. Topics of interest for the workshop include theoretical, computational or application related issues of lexical semantic research. Papers are invited in (but not limited to) the following areas:

- Lexical Semantics

- Formal Semantics

- Cognitive Semantics

- Lexical Semantics and Functional Syntax

- Lexical Semantics and Natural Language Processing

- Lexical Semantics and Construction Grammar

- Lexical Semantics and Psycholinguistics/Neuro-linguistics

- Lexical Semantics and Pragmatics & Discourse Analysis

- Lexicalization & Grammaticalization

- Construction of Lexical semantic web

Papers on any topic in Chinese Lexical Semantics and related fields are cordially welcome.

Important Dates:

Abstract submission deadline: December 29, 2006

Notification of acceptance: February 9, 2007

Full paper submission deadline: April 6, 2007

Conference date: May 21-23, 2007

Submission Guidelines:

An author may submit at most one single author or first author abstract. In the case of joint authorship, one address should be designated for communication with CLSW-2007.

Abstracts should be as specific as possible, with statements of topic, approach/methodology, analysis and conclusion. Abstracts are limited to two A4 pages in 12-point font with 1'' margins. Data and examples must be given within the body of the text rather than at the end, though references may be included on a separate page, if necessary.

Authors must send two electronic files formatted as Adobe Acrobat PDF files. One should be anonymous; the other should include the name, affiliation and email address of the author(s).

The Faculty of Languages and Linguistics at Georgetown University are pleased to announce that the 2007 Georgetown University Round Table on Languages and Linguistics (GURT 2007) will focus on little words—items such as clitics, pronouns, determiners, conjunctions, discourse particles, auxiliary/light verbs, prepositions—including their phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, pragmatics, discourse function, historical development, variation, and acquisition (by children or adults). GURT 2007 will host plenary lectures, colloquia, individual papers, and poster presentations.

Call for Papers:

We invite abstracts for presentations related to theory, history, acquisition, and usage pertinent to the topic of little words. A prize will be awarded to the best student paper proposal.

Presentation formats include:- Colloquia: Scheduled for 2-hour blocks. Colloquium organizers may organize as they choose, but time should be allocated for opening and closing remarks, presentations, discussion and audience response. Organizers serve as the liaison between participants and the conference organizers. Organizers may choose to participate in the panel as a presenter or discussant.- Individual papers: 20 minutes long with a 10-minute discussion period.- Poster presentations: displayed for a 2-hour block of time; an opportunity to report on work in progress in one-on-one discussions.

Proposal deadline: November 10, 2006 (acceptance notification by December 20, 2006)
