As part of the graduate program, students specialize in Hispanic Linguistics, including course work in Spanish phonology, syntax, dialectology and history of the Spanish language. In addition, students receive a solid foundation in general linguistics topics as well. Qualified applicants may be considered for a graduate teaching assistantship, which includes tuition and fee waivers, as well as a monthly stipend during the academic year. Graduate assistants teach undergraduate courses offered as part of the Spanish basic language program, which is administered through the Department of Hispanic Languages and Literatures. Demonstration of native or native-like fluency in Spanish is necessary prior to appointment.
