Dissertation Abstract:

The goal of the research project was to prove that the magnitude of theincrease in recall and precision of named entity recognition justifies aseparate and language specific treatment of each kind of entity in everydomain. The hypotheses that by using Local Grammars, the NER task can besolved with the additional side benefit of gaining further informationabout the named entity from its context, was to either be corroborated ordisproved. The domain and language that was focused on are online businessnews written in English.
