Folks,
I am interested in collecting names of ethnic/linguistic groups that areknown to have lacked more than a few words for number (or none) but thenborrowed number words from another language and began counting as theyneeded to (such as entering into economic relationships with other ethnicgroups).
If you could send me the names of such groups with a brief summary of thefacts (e.g. when the borrowed the number words, when they began counting, what the circumstances were, etc.) that would be extremely helpful. I willpost a summary if there are enough responses.
Thanks very much,
Dan Everett
