Meeting Description:
Papers dealing with any facet of cognitive linguistics research are welcome, including research on meaning, conceptual structure, conceptual operations, cognitive processing, grammar, acquisition, language use, discourse function, and other issues. We also encourage papers that relate to the secondary conference theme, “Cognitive Linguistics, Applied”; as well as the primary theme, “New Directions”.

Witnessing Change:A Multi-Disciplinary Perspective
The Spanish and Portuguese Graduate Students' Association of the University of Toronto is pleased to announce its 27th Levy-Wasteney's Annual Graduate Symposium, which will include the following distinguished guest speakers:

Dr. María del Carmen SillatoDepartment of Spanish and Latin American Studies,University of WaterlooPresenting ''Función del testimonio en la (re) construcción de la memoria histórica'' (The function of testimony in the (re)construction of historic memory)
Special Guest:Marina NematResearch Assistant, Women's Studies, University of TorontoPresenting her memoir ''Prisoner of Tehran'' (Penguin Canada, May 2007)
We welcome proposals for 20-minute presentations (with an additional 10 minutes allotted for questions) on the theme of ''Witnessing Change.'' In order to integrate different disciplines, we encourage proposals from any of the following fields: literature, linguistics, philosophy, history, politics, cultural studies, cinema, and visual arts. Presentations should focus on, but are not limited to, the Spanish and Portuguese speaking world. Suggested, but not exclusive, topics include:- testimony- cultural memory and history- historicity and fiction- the changing ''Canon''- hybridity, muticulturality and heterogeneity- discourses of travel- dislocation and border-crossings- politics of race and gender- language contact, variation and change- emerging technologies and new media
Abstracts in Spanish, Portuguese, English or French must not exceed 500 words and should be accompanied by a short CV of the author.
Deadline for submissions is Friday, January 26th, 2007.
