Subject: Adverbial Relatives - Call for Data and References
Dear colleagues,
I plan to start a morpho-syntactic and semantic research of so calledadverbial relatives, i.e. place-, time-, manner-, and reason-relatives,illustrated by the following English examples:
1. a. I like the city where I was born b. I remember the year when the war started c. I admire the way (that) Peter plays the piano d. I want to know the reason why John went home so early
Currently, I am in search of the following:
- references on this topic (mainly concerning syntactic and semanticresearch but not excluding typological, acquisition, and other relatedkinds of research)
- data from a number of typologically different languagesI am interested mainly in the way these relative are morphologicallyintroduced/expressed. As far as I have found out so far, such relatives maybe introduced by (i) a corresponding wh-question-word, as in (1a); (ii)declarative complementizer, as in (1c); (iii) relative complementizer; (iv)resumptive strategy. Note that one language may combine these strategieseven for one relativization-type.
I will be grateful for any kind of information, brief or detailed. Speakersof less desribed languages are specially invited to contribute! Forinterested linguists, a more detailed questionnaire may be prepared.
Please, send your references/data to this email address:r.simikrug.nl

The Hong Kong Polytechnic University Research Centre for ProfessionalCommunication in English is building up a Financial Services Corpus in HongKong. We have been collecting annual reports, prospectuses of listedcompanies, speeches of government regulatory bodies and etc. We would liketo see if any linguist or any organisation, is doing something similar ---also working on a financial corpus.
Thanks!
