Description: The Northwestern Institute on Complex Systems (NICO) at Northwestern University has an opening for postdoctoral positions in the complex systems area. NICO is an interdisciplinary research institute that enjoys membership of faculty from a wide variety of departments in the physical sciences, social sciences, and humanities. The research will focus on the modeling of dynamical processes and network structure in natural, engineered or human systems. Candidates with a background in theoretical modeling and experience with computer simulations or data analysis are encouraged to apply. The ideal candidate will also have good writing skills and familiarity with complex networks, a demonstrated ability to conduct independent high impact research, and participate in interdisciplinary collaborations with affiliated faculty members across campus.

In the area of language, human systems includes the structure of language systems within individuals as well as the structure of linguistic communities. Engineered systems encompass a wide variety of computational linguistic, natural language processing and machine learning frameworks and applications. Candidates whose research into language focuses on the role of dynamics and network structure in these target areas are encouraged to apply.

The appointment will be for two years, starting in Spring or Summer 2007. Salary is competitive, depending on qualifications and experience. To apply, please e-mail a cv, two letters of recommendation, and one page statement of how your research interests relate to this position to Joanne DiGuido, NICO Business Administrator, (847) 491-2527, j-diguidonorthwestern.edu.
