Dissertation Abstract:

The thesis is an investigation of the incidence of bilingualism on theTashelhit young learners' language choice patterns.

The investigation has has shown that:(i) The socio- economic level of the family, however important it may be,does not influence the language achievement of the learners exclusively ofother factors.(ii) The impact of the cultural status of the family is a fundamentalelement in the pupils'level of language performance.(iii) Mutual influence between languages does not affect achievement in either.(iv) The impact of a language, Arabic for example, on the mental activitiesof the learner is closely related to his degree of achievement in thislanguage.
