Call for papers - Spoken language: a special issue of the journal StudiaLinguistica
Call information:With this open call we invite authors to submit papers for a special issueof Studia Linguistica on the topic of Spoken Language (Vol. 62, issues 1/2,2008). It might be debatable whether spoken language is something otherthan language generally; however, it is fair to say that many linguisticspapers, especially those that deal with languages that have a writtentradition, focus on written language. This is in some cases a deliberatestrategy, but it is also reasonable to assume it is partly a function ofconvenience: examples are easier to obtain both because of the predominanceof written material on the net, and because of the fact that most collectedcorpora contain written language. At the same time many linguistics papersuse fabricated and idealised examples to discuss their topics. In thisissue of Studia Linguistica, we invite papers that focus especially onspoken language. This means that the empirical data must be from real-lifesituations (understood in a broad sense), including spoken languagecorpora. We expect many new kinds of data to emerge, and that, as a result, accepted and/or received conceptions of linguistic phenomena may have to berevised. We invite papers on a wide range of topics, where the focus may beon one or more of several different areas of spoken language: syntax, morphology, phonology, semantics, pragmatics, lexicon.
Submission:The deadline for submission is April 15, 2007. Papers should be sentelectronically to the guest editor:Janne Bondi JohannessenThe Text Laboratory, Dept. of Linguistics and Nordic LanguagesUniversity of OsloP.O.Box 1102 BlindernN-0317 Oslojannebjiln.uio.no
