Description:
The Department of Linguistics at the University of Rochester invites applications for a tenure track appointment in formal semantics and pragmatics at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin July 1, 2006. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in hand before time of appointment. We seek candidates with a proven record of research in formal semantics and pragmatics, a record of excellence in teaching, and strong evidence of interest in interdisciplinary work; candidates with an established research program which includes intonation are likely to be of strongest interest.
Duties include teaching established courses in the undergraduate and graduate curriculum, and undergraduate and graduate student supervision; breadth of teaching interest and ability is highly desirable. The Department of Linguistics is part of a larger active interdisciplinary community consisting of faculty and students doing research in cognitive science, philosophy, and computer science, and we seek candidates who are most likely to further those connections. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience.
Applicants should submit in hard copy a cover letter, curriculum vitae, samples of published work, a statement of teaching interests and teaching evaluations (if available), and any further supporting documents to the address below.
Electronic versions of a cover letter, curriculum vitae and teaching statement may also be sent. Please also arrange for three letters of reference to be sent in hard copy to the address above, or electronically to joyce.mcdonoughling.rochester.edu Phone: 585-275-8053 Fax: 585-273-1088 Website: http://ling.rochester.edu
