Traditionally, theoretical linguistic investigation and quantitativemethodologies have been antithetical. But this has been changing rapidlyin recent years, with an increasing recognition of the role thatquantitative methods can play in the investigation of the structure ofthe human language faculty. As at the first QITL meeting (Osnabrueck2002), we would like to bring together researchers from theoretical,computational, quantitative and psycholinguistics who are interested inapplying quantitative methods to theoretical issues in language to sharetheir work.

We invite researchers engaged in quantitative investigations oftheoretical linguistic questions to submit abstracts for 30-minute talks(plus 10 minutes of discussion). The focus should be on a question oflinguistic interest, which may be approached either from a moretheoretical or a more quantitative perspective. Applications incomputational linguistics may also be of interest if they lead to orshed light on theoretical questions. Relevant topics include (but areby no means limited to): models of lexical semantic preferences, ruleproductivity, grammar acquisition, and the issues surrounding the use ofthe Web as a representative corpus.

Abstracts should be 2-3 pages long, including figures, tables andreferences (this corresponds to approx. 1000-1500 words). Electronicsubmission by e-mail to qitluos.de).

The conference Syntax and Semantics of Spatial P is organized by UiL OTS, Utrecht University. The conference will be held in Utrecht, The Netherlands from June 2nd to 4th, 2006. We invite abstracts for 40-minute talks with an additional 20-minute discussion.

The main aim of this conference is to stimulate discussion about the category P in a broad sense (prepositions, postpositions, circumpositions, particles, prefixes) from various linguistic perspectives. Prepositions might seem like minor elements but at a closer look they are at the core of human expressions of space, motion, time and thus play a central role in human language and linguistics. Since the spatial meaning is one of the most studied domains in the category of P and it is the main topic of the conference, the general research question to be addressed is in what ways our knowledge of space is expressed linguistically in the domain of Ps. That is, what is at the basis of our linguistic expression of space? We welcome abstracts addressing syntactic and semantic issues of the spatial domain. The submission of work in progress is highly encouraged.

Submission details-Abstracts are invited for 40-minute talks with an additional 20-minute discussion.-Anonymous abstracts must be sent as attached files (in either Word or PDF format) to both of the following e-mail addresses:

The body of the message should include: name, title, affiliation, and e-mail. The subject of the message should include ''abstract P conference''.

Abstracts must be sent by March 6th, 2006 and may be at most two pages long including examples and possibly references (measured on A4 sheet with one-inch margins) and typed in at least 12-point font.

Upon acceptance, authors will be requested to send an extended abstract of (maximally) 5 pages length.

Furthermore, there is the possibility to submit electronic posters. These will be published on the conference's website prior to event and are to be used as potential sources of discussion during the conference. Electronic documents of maximally 5 pages can be submitted and will undergo a light reviewing process. Even though authors of accepted poster will not be eligible for presentation we encourage them to participate in the conference. The deadline for poster submission is May 15th, 2006.

Finally, we are looking into the possibility of publishing selected papers in proceedings.
