On Thursday March 16, 2006, the Meertens Institute will launch the dialectsyntax database DynaSAND. At http://www.meertens.nl/sand/zoeken/ you finddata of 267 dialects of Dutch collected between 2000 and 2003 in theNetherlands, Belgium and Northern France. The data include the originalsound files and transcriptions of oral interviews, as well as the resultsof a postal and telephone survey. The database comes with a search engineand a cartographic tool that enables the researcher to visualize searchresults on maps. The database is particularly relevant for linguistsinterested in the left periphery of the clause (e.g., complementizers,complementizer agreement, relative clauses, Wh-clauses, subject pronounsand subject pronoun doubling), the reflexive system, the verbal system andnegation.
