Dear Linguists,

My name is Susan Smith, and this is my first semester working at the Linguist List,as well as in the Master's program at Wayne State. I have two jobs, posting thequestions submitted to Ask-a-Linguist, and working on the Multi-Tree project. Aseditor of Ask-a-Linguist, I weed out inappropriate questions (please do my homeworkfor me) and questions that have already been answered and send the rest on to ourdedicated Ask-a-Linguist panelists, who do a wonderful job of patiently answeringquestions from the general public. The rest of my time is devoted to Multi-Tree, anew project which will collect all the various theories of language trees, familiesand relationships into a searchable database. This means lots of library time, andanother great opportunity to learn about historical linguistics while at work.

I am thrilled to be working here, not only because I need a job to pay for school butbecause of all the amazing learning opportunities. It's great to be a part ofsomething so useful and to be working with people who are all so competent, engagedin their work and eager to help.

Thank you to everyone who donates to support Linguist List; not only are you ensuringthe continuation of this great resource but you're helping many students have thelearning experience of a lifetime.

Sincerely,Susan Smith
