CALL FOR PAPERS

We invite papers for a special collection of essays on New Media and Linguistic Change. Articles on some of the more commonly researched themes (e.g. chat, email, etc.) have already been invited and accepted; therefore, the current call is restricted to the following topics (or you may suggest another topic for approval):

Blogs and online diaries Homepages Digital poetry Web bulletin boards Online Games/Entertainment Wikipedia/online references Advertisements E-learning/distance learning Modern mass media communication in general

Papers should adhere to the following guidelines:

1. Begin with the paper's abstract. 2. Include the historical evolution of the phenomenon you describe, with particular focus on its current state. All discussion should show -- either generally or by example of language-specific data -- how the new media effect linguistic change and/or change in language use, in part as a result of the nature of the medium's development. 3. Adhere to the LSA stylesheet (http://www.lsadc.org/info/pubs-lang-style.cfm) 4. Include a short bio and institutional summary.

Abstracts and papers should be in English. The volume will be reviewed by the series editor as well as by the volume editors. Prospective authors should submit a preliminary abstract to the editors by April 30 2006.

We look forward to what we hope will be a unique and exciting volume.

Best regards, Charley Rowe (roweds.unizh.ch), eds.
