Jobs: Various Languages & Comp Ling: Consultant, Butler Hill Group

Editor for this issue: Bethany Townsend <bethanylinguistlist.org>

The LINGUIST List strongly encourages employers to use non-discriminatory standards in hiring policy. In particular we urge that employers do not discriminate on the grounds of race, ethnicity, nationality, age, religion, gender, or sexual orientation. However, we have no means of enforcing these standards.

Job seekers should pay special attention to language in ads regarding employment requirements and are encouraged to consult our international employment page at http://linguistlist.org/jobs/jobnet.html. This page has been set up so that people can report on the employment standards of various countries.

projects require excellent reading, writing and communication skills in

They should be very proficient in modern usage of the language, including
linguistic registers (specifically formality levels), and the ability to
edit for grammatical and typographic mistakes.

Tablet Language Project:

Requires linguists who are native or near-native speakers in:
- Bulgarian (cyr)
- Estonian
- Latvian
- Lithuanian
- Slovenian
- Ukriainian (cry)
- Indonesian

They must be experienced with linguistic text (e.g. linguistic corpora,
lexicography or lexicology, and field and statistical research)and have
recent experience living in and/or educated in the target country,
including current knowledge of common formats for telephone numbers,
addresses, proper names, punctuation conventions, spelling reform, etc.
Familiarity with 'variables' (linguistics formalisms or
programming/computational linguistics background) is required.

Butler Hill Requirements:
Projects require strong computer skills in a Windows environment and
stronger than average comfort with software and technology. Candidates
should be detail-oriented and able to follow carefully documented
instructions but be comfortable exercising instinct and best judgment in
the gray areas. US residents must have US work authorization (US citizen
or permanent resident; unfortunately, we cannot sponsor employment visas at
this time). Although there are no geographic requirements regarding remote
work location, all language consultants are expected to be timely in their
communication and regularly available for some email or phone
correspondence during the regular business hours of 9h00-17h00 Pacific
Standard Time.

Compensation:
We offer a competitive, hourly pay rate DOE (paid as 1099 self-employment
income).

Apply by emailing a recent resume or CV, in Word format, in English, along
with a cover letter specifying the following information to the attention
of 'HR Coordinator' at the application email listed below:
- US work authorization (if applicable)
- availability(hours/week & planned time off dates if
known)
- all languages spoken and reading proficiency level/
fluency in each language
- current version of Windows and currently installed MS
office applications (specify proficiency level in each
application)

**Please include the language(s) you are applying for and the words 'Script
Creation' or 'Tablet Language' in the subject line of your email. Use the
same contact information to request a more detailed job description.

Butler Hill Group periodically has need for language experts in languages
other than those required for the current projects. Interested candidates
may also respond by following the same process.
