Meeting Description:

This conference, to be held in the Department of Linguistics, RSPAS, ANU, will
launch the SHLP with contributions on a range of topics in the history of
linguistics in the Pacific region.

The conference has 9 presentations on topics in the history of research on
Pacific linguistics, presented on Friday 1st August.

Language Classification: Failure, confusion and success in mainland and insular
Southeast Asia

In addition, there will be a book launch of McGregor, William B. (ed.) 2008.
Encountering Aboriginal languages: studies in the history of Australian
linguistics. PL 591. Canberra: Pacific Linguistics.

On Saturday 2nd August there will be a business meeting concerned with the
establishment of the society.
