The PhD is attached to an Australian Research Council-funded projecton natural language generation for Aboriginal languages. The overallproject involves of constructing a data-to-text system for theAboriginal language Arrernte, taking as a starting point data from AFL('Australian Rules') football. This will include a computationallinguistic analysis of Arrernte, the construction of a grammar forArrernte in an appropriate formalism, and the building of anEnglish-language prototype system; the PhD will focus on one aspect ofthis.
