The School of Languages is a centre of excellence in applied languagestudy, and has a well established reputation for its teaching, research andengagement work in linguistics (descriptive, theoretical and applied,including language pedagogy), translation and interpreting studies and alarge and growing number of modern languages (including English as aforeign language).

We are now looking to make a key appointment which reflect our strategicplans for future development:- Associate Professor in Applied Linguistics/Language Pedagogy, to take onan exciting leadership role, making a significant contribution to thedevelopment and implementation of our teaching and research strategy in thearea of language pedagogy, to the design of our applied language curriculaand to the delivery of our programmes in applied linguistics and TESOL. Weare particularly keen to appoint a positive, innovative, imaginative andflexible individual at Reader level who has an established publicationrecord in leading pedagogic peer-reviewed journals and who has had successin a previous leadership role and in supervising PhD students. (This is are-advertisement; previous applicants need not re-apply.)- In line with the level at which appointment is made, you will beexpected to contribute to the delivery of our academic portfolio in:teaching and learning at all levels; research and innovation (with a viewto inclusion in the forthcoming Research Excellence Framework, includingattracting and supervising research students and successfully bidding forresearch funding); and external engagement activities in line with ourstrategic priorities. In addition, you will be expected to make acontribution to school administration and, for the more senior appointment,management and leadership.
