The Center for Advanced Study in Theoretical Linguistics (CASTL) at theUniversity of Tromsø currently seeks a post-doctoral research fellow intheoretical syntax and morphology. The successful candidate will beexpected to work in a systematic fine-grained investigation of themorphological and syntactic properties of nominals across a representativesample of Bantu languages. The period of appointment is 3 years.

CASTL is a Norwegian Center of Excellence funded by the Research Council ofNorway and the University of Tromsø. CASTL's primary research activity iswithin generative grammar with a focus on syntax, phonology, and languageacquisition. This postdoc position is integrated in the project"Morphosyntax of Bantu Nouns" run by Knut Tarald Taraldsen and MichalStarke. The successful candidate will have a research record in theoreticalsyntax and morphology, and familiarity with the nanosyntactic frameworkwill be regarded as an advantage. Everything else being equal, precedencewill be given to candidates with research experience in Bantu linguistics.Native speaker competency in a Bantu language will also be considered anadvantage.

The prerequisite for appointment in the position of post-doctoral researchfellow is a doctoral degree, either a Norwegian PhD in linguistics or anequivalent foreign doctoral degree.

Applications must be accompanied by a research proposal, including a workschedule. Appointments are made on the understanding that the researchproject will be completed within the contract term.

After employment a plan will be drawn up showing how the research projectis to be implemented. This plan will be part of the employment contract forthe fixed term and shall cover the project description and work schedule.The plan shall also state the amount of potential teaching or equivalentwork for The University of Tromsø required. The plan shall also state whois responsible for providing academic supervision.

Applications will be assessed by an expert committee. The main emphasiswill be placed on assessment of the submitted scholarly works and theresearch proposal.
