Description:

The Communication and Information Sciences programme (CIW) is aninterdisciplinary programme in the Faculty of Arts at the University ofGroningen (www.rug.nl/let). CIW is one of the larger programmes in theFaculty of Arts. Every year around 120 students enter the Bachelorprogramme and around 60 the Master programme. The programme has anoutspoken discourse-analytic orientation and covers the following areas:Organizational communication, Media communication and Computercommunication. The core staff is assigned to the chair for CommunicationStudies. Faculty from other departments -- especially Speech Communicationand Discourse Analysis and Information sciences / Humanities computing --also teach in the programme. We collaborate with departments that offerminors in the programme (Foreign languages, Information sciences,Journalism, Linguistics). The research group Discourse & Communication ispart of the Center for Language and Cognition Groningen (CLCG).

The department of Communication and Information Sciences offers 3 Lecturerpositions in Communication and Information Sciences (3,0 fte).

The Position:The new lecturers teach within the Communication and Information Sciencesprogramme (60 %) and do research within the Discourse & Communication group(40 %). Supervision of students and course development are also importanttasks. Administrative and management tasks may be part of the function.

Profile:Our new colleagues have research and teaching expertise in one (or several)of the following areas: document design, applied conversation analysis,media and computer communication.

Apart from excellent communicative and didactic qualifications, we arelooking for candidates who:- have a PhD in a research area that contributes to thediscourse-theoretical approach of communication processes- have experience with teaching and research in one of the followingareas: document design, applied conversation analysis, media and computercommunication- are able to develop courses and teaching formats that give shape to theprofile of the CIW programme- are professionally involved and engaged, documented by publications andother research activities- have an excellent command of Dutch and English, or are prepared to learnDutch within reasonable time

The University of Groningen offers:A salary dependent on qualifications and work experience with a minimum of3195 Euros per month (salary scale 11) till a maximum of 4970 Euros permonth (salary scale 12) for a full-time position. Two full-timeappointments will be for a period of two years. One full-time appointmentwill be for a period of two years, with the prospect of appointment for anindefinite period (tenure track), based on an appraisal in the second year.

Date of entry into employment commences: 1 August 2010

A short lecture may be part of the selection procedure.
