Description:

Fixed-term university teacher post in English language 1.8.2010-31.7.2011.

The task involves the teaching of academic communication skills, inparticular scientific writing. Coverage is sought for two permanent membersof staff who will be on leave of absence for the period mentioned.

Required qualifications:According to the University of Jyväskylä's service regulations a universityteacher is expected to have a Master's degree and teaching experiencenecessary to perform the duties in question. In evaluating this, experiencein teaching and supervising students, pedagogical training, teachingmaterial produced, other teaching-related merits and, if necessary,performance in a trial lecture will all be taken into account.

Remuneration:In accordance with teaching and research staff level 5 (2636,80Euros/month). In addition, an individual pay component is paid on the basisof job performance, which can amount to a maximum of 46,3% of thejob-specific pay component.

Consideration of teaching merits: When assessing teaching skillconsideration will be given to pedagogical training, practical experiencegained through teaching work, ability to produce teaching material, othermerits gained through teaching and teaching ability demonstrated by meansof possible trial lectures. Candidates should attach a curriculum vitae anda portfolio of teaching merits to their application.

Language Centre teaching involves the arrangement of language andcommunication studies in accordance with degree requirements for universitystudents. The primary task in the posts concerned is research communicationin English, in which the main emphasis is on scientific writing and ondeveloping the teaching and assessment of the same. The task requiresacquaintance with research connected to writing in English as well as withintercultural and interdisciplinary conventions, an excellent ability inEnglish (education in English at the very least) and corresponding teachingexperience. Subject-specific studies, work experience at anEnglish-language university and familiarity with new learning environmentswill be regarded as particular merits.
