The School of Languages and Linguistics is committed to the high qualityteaching of languages at both Nathan and Gold Coast campuses. In all, sixlanguages plus linguistics are taught by the School. The School emphasisesthe linking of language learning to career oriented courses, thedevelopment of innovative language teaching methodologies, especially thoseinvolving new technologies, and community service.

This is a full-time, fixed-term appointment for three years as Head ofSchool, with a substantive continuing position as Professor (Level E) orAssociate Professor (Level D).

The role:The Head of School is a key leadership role within the University. The Headof School is responsible for the performance of the School includingteaching and learning outcomes; research and external engagement; financialplanning; and staffing.

The appointee will be the key ambassador for the School and University toall relevant external stakeholders and education bodies. He/she will havethe opportunity to make a key contribution to the development of the Schooland its future growth at the University. This, combined with the lifestylethat the region offers, would suggest that this is an outstandingopportunity for a senior academic.

The person:The successful candidate will provide leadership and oversight of allmissions of the School of Languages and Linguistics, including teaching andlearning, research and service. The Head of School will possess strongvisionary, strategic and collegial management skills with a capacity toexcel in a multicultural, multilingual environment. The successfulcandidate will also have outstanding interpersonal and communicationskills, with the stature and expertise to build top-level relationshipswith all stakeholders.

Salary:A base salary from AUD $108,248 to $119,256 for Associate Professor or AUD$139,439 for Professor per annum with a Head of School loading, and anemployer superannuation contribution of 17% of base salary will be offered.
