Dear LINGUIST Subscribers,

More and more linguists choose small solid-state recorders for theirfieldwork. Many such recorders lack the appropriate interface forprofessional-grade speech recording microphones. I have reviewed two small,battery-powered field mixers that can be used with digital recorders toprovide XLR inputs, clean gain, phantom power, and signal panning.

Sound Devices MixPre is a high-end unit ($600):http://bartus.org/akustyk/MixPre

Rolls LiveMix is an entry level field mixer ($100):http://bartus.org/akustyk/LiveMix

I hope you find the reviews useful.Best,Bartek
