The Department of East Asian Studies in the Faculty of Arts at theUniversity of Alberta invites applications for a tenure track position atthe rank of Assistant Professor in Chinese Linguistics and Pedagogy, whichmay include any or several of the following areas; Chinese Linguistics,Chinese Applied Linguistics, Chinese Second Language Acquisition, ChineseLanguage Pedagogy. Responsibilities will include teaching in bothundergraduate and graduate student programs (four courses per year), andmaintaining an active research program. Applicants will have, or be closeto completing, a PhD in an appropriate discipline, and demonstrateoutstanding potential for a research career. They should also demonstratenative or near-native fluency in spoken and written Mandarin and English.Experience in teaching Chinese at the college/university level in NorthAmerica, interest in instructional technology and experience incoordinating a Chinese language program are important assets.

The Department of East Asian Studies (please see the web address above) hasrecently undergone a significant rebuilding process with the addition ofseveral important positions, and efforts are continuing to further expandthe Department's offerings and expertise. The filling of this position isan important part of this process.

Salary is competitive, and will be commensurate with qualifications andexperience. Applicants must also arrange for threeletters of reference to be sent to the Chair. Consideration of applicationswill begin October 11, 2010 and continue until the position is filled.
