The Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures at Illinois StateUniversity invites applications and nominations for the position of Chair,preferably to begin on July 1, 2011.
Qualifications and Responsibilities: Applicants should hold the rank offull professor or advanced associate professor and must have a PhD in aforeign language with a specialty in linguistics, literature, culturalstudies, pedagogy, or comparable field. Candidates should have anestablished record of research and teaching accomplishments, demonstrateeffective leadership, and possess strong administrative and interpersonalskills. The Chair will be expected to provide vision and creativeleadership as the department builds on its current strengths and to advancethe department's educational and research missions. Candidates fromunderrepresented groups are encouraged to apply.
Salary: This is a 12 month position with a competitive salary.
Department and Programs: The Department of Languages, Literatures andCultures is located in the College of Arts and Sciences. It offers B.A.programs in French, German, and Spanish, including teacher certification inthose languages, as well as an M.A. program. The department also sponsorsarea studies programs, participates in numerous minors and the generaleducation program, and supports the College foreign language requirement.In the M.A. program, students choose an emphasis in cultural studies,language/linguistics, literature, or pedagogy within French, German, orSpanish. The department has approximately 211 majors, 517 minors, 32graduate students, and 28 full-time faculty (including tenure track).Languages taught include Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, andSpanish.
