This book provides a complete overview of the tradition of High Germantranslations of the apocalypse in the 14th and 15th century. The methodsand requirements of translation are investigated in the context of traditionalBible interpretation. The translation profiles are primarily influenced by theorthodox interpretation of the apocalypse and its transmission in sermonsand by the author profile of John the Evangelist. The texts thus do notoffer 'apocalyptic' reading but instead emphasize the hopeful character of thebook and its didactic potential.
