The Department of African, Middle Eastern and South Asian Languages andLiteratures at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey (New Brunswick)invites applications for a renewable annual position of lecturer of ArabicLanguage beginning Fall 2011 (subject to final budgetary approval). Theideal candidate will have a Ph. D. (though M.A. or M.S. considered) inArabic Language and Literature or related field, including (Applied)Linguistics, (Foreign/Second/Heritage) Language Education, and SecondLanguage Acquisition. Other qualifications include: Native or near-nativeproficiency in Modern Standard Arabic (MSA), knowledge of a dialect ofcolloquial Arabic, experience in teaching all levels of Arabic (preferablyin a North American university), competence in communicative,learner-centered language pedagogy, creative use of instructionaltechnology, and formal/informal assessment strategies. The successfulcandidate will teach six courses per academic year at the elementary,intermediate and advanced levels. Salary is commensurate with education andexperience. The position carries a full package of University benefits inaddition to the salary.
