Position: Probationary tenure-track position as Assistant Professor inSpanish in the Department of Foreign Languages beginning August 22, 2011.The department seeks candidates who are committed to teaching excellenceand to maintaining an active program of scholarship involvingundergraduates, and who will bring diverse cultural and ethnic perspectivesto campus.
Qualifications: Doctorate in Spanish Linguistics, or General Linguisticswith a focus in Spanish. (ABD applicants considered with evidence that thedissertation will be defended by June 1, 2011 and the degree formallyconferred before the start of the 2011-2012 academic year.) Strongbackground in phonetics, experience in teaching composition, and excellentcommunication skills in English and Spanish are essential; experience inSpanish for the professions (business, healthcare, translation) may beconsidered an asset.
Responsibilities: Teach advanced phonetics, grammar, and compositioncourses as well as a full spectrum of Spanish language courses as assignedin the Department of Foreign Languages; participate in research andscholarly work related to the field of expertise; support faculty andstudents in the department's study-abroad programs; provide academicadvising to students as assigned; engage in service to the university andcommunity and participate in department, college, and university committeework.
