Description:

The Department of Linguistics at the University of Utah invitesapplications for a tenured position at the rank of Associate Professor tobegin July 1, 2011, pending budgetary approval. Candidates must hold anearned doctorate in Linguistics and show a strong record of sustainedresearch and departmental citizenship.

While the area of primary focus is open, the successful applicant must havea theoretical perspective on data drawn from an empirical domain includingthe languages of the peoples indigenous to the Americas, have intereststhat mesh well with those of the present faculty of the department,college, and university, and contribute actively to the success of thedepartment's research, teaching, service, and outreach missions. Duties offaculty members include sustaining a high-quality research program,mentoring graduate and undergraduate student-scholars, teaching courseswhich are part of the departmental curriculum, and providing departmentaland/or university service.

In addition to the departmental role, the successful applicant will also beappointed as Director of the Center for American Indian Languages (CAIL).One of the primary duties of the appointee is to bring a vision for CAIL'sfuture that builds on, enhances, and augments its current strengths andongoing successes, and which integrates the activities of CAIL into thelarger university community, while continuing and expanding its role in thecommunity. Experience in administration, collaborative outreach, andfund-raising, as well as ability to support and facilitate varying researchperspectives, will be considered.
