The Faculty of Arts of the University of Groningen is seeking to appoint aFull Professor of Romance Linguistics (1,0 fte). The Professor will beresponsible for teaching and research in this field. The successfulcandidate will have proven interest and competence in Romance linguistics,understood broadly (i.e., including, but not restricted to comparativeRomance linguistics), and may be a specialist in French, Italian and/orSpanish linguistics. The professor must be an internationally recognizedexpert in at least one subfield of Romance linguistics and/or theoreticalapproaches of linguistics.

The position involves:- co-ordinating and teaching courses in the above-mentioned field in theBachelor's and Master's degree programmes in Romance languages and culturesand the research Master Linguistics- co-ordinating and conducting research in Romance linguistics- raising external funds for research- supervising PhD students- performing administrative tasks within and outside the university- further cultivating and developing national and international contactsto benefit the chair's teaching and research

Qualifications:We are seeking candidates who want to lead a small, enthusiastic team oflinguists in the department of Romance languages and cultures.

We assume that interested parties:- have a PhD in the field of Romance linguistics- are experienced lecturers and active researchers, especially in thefield of Romance linguistics- have good administrative and organizational skills- have been successful at raising external funds for research- have experience in supervising PhD students- are able to promote interest in the field- are prepared to move to the Groningen area- have a good command of the Dutch language or are prepared to learn Dutchwithin a short term

Conditions of employment:The University of Groningen offers an appointment as Full Professor 2 as of1 September 2011 or sooner if possible. The salary will be EUR 4,904(minimum)/EUR 7,142 (maximum) gross per month for full-time employment (CLAfor Dutch universities).
