Call for Proposals for development of a Kazakh Elementary Textbook
The Center for Languages of the Central Asian Region (CeLCAR) is callingfor proposals for experienced Kazakh language pedagogs to develop asixteen-unit elementary Kazakh language textbook, suitable for use in bothAmerican higher education settings and for self-study.
Successful proposals will begin on January 15, 2011, and will produce afinished and tested product to be considered for publication by GeorgetownUniversity Press. CeLCAR will provide the developers with compensation inline with qualifications and as benchmarks are met. Successful applicantswill also be expected to participate as instructors in IU's well-known 8weeks intensive summer program, and participate in pre- and post-sessionworkshops.
Developers must be self-motivated and able to meet strict project deadlineswith minimal supervision. They will also receive assistance from CeLCAR'sstaff in establishing scope and sequence, printing, lay-out, preparingaudio-visual materials for inclusion in the textbook, and English editingand polishing.
Applicants must be native speakers of Kazakhstan Kazakh with linguistic orpedagogical training, have experience teaching Kazakh as a second language(preferably in the United States or other English-speaking environment),and TOEFL scores of 500 or equivalent. Proposals should include: acurriculum vita, a description of the proposed textbook including designprinciples and rationale, a draft scope and sequence for the first fourunits, and sample unit on any topic appropriate for an introductory levelcourse.
