Description:

The Central and Southwest Asian Studies Center under the Department ofAnthropology in the College of Arts and Sciences at The University ofMontana, Missoula, MT, invites applications for a full time, tenure-trackposition at the rank of Assistant Professor in Arabic language andlinguistics, commencing Fall 2011.

Applicants should hold a doctorate degree in Arabic or a related field andhave demonstrated excellence in scholarship, grant writing and teaching atthe undergraduate level. Candidates should have native, or native-likeproficiency in one dialect of Arabic with advanced mastery of ModernStandard Arabic. Strong interpersonal and communication skills in Englishand Arabic are essential. Preferred skills include grant proposal writingand computer skills. Responsibilities include teaching Arabic courses atthe elementary, intermediate and/or advanced level(s), leading the processof revising the Arabic language curriculum, and participating in writinggrant proposals. Other responsibilities include engaging in scholarly andcollege service activities and advising students. As the Arabic programgrows, willingness to teach interdisciplinary courses related to Arabiclinguistics and/or literature is preferred.
