Description:

The Research Centre for Cantonese of the Department of Chinese Language andLiterature at The Chinese University of Hong Kong is pleased to inviteapplications for a PhD studentship in Chinese Language and Literature for up tothree years on a research project on syntax and semantics of functionalcategories in Cantonese and other Chinese dialects, focusing on the postverbalparticles and their preverbal counterparts.

The interested candidate should hold a master degree in linguistics or Chineselanguage with specialization in linguistics. Some background in theoreticalapproaches to syntax and/or semantics is essential; a strong background ispreferred. An excellent command of written and spoken Chinese and English isessential, and a native or near-native knowledge of Cantonese would also be anasset.
