Description:
Yale University seeks a full-time Lector in Dutch language beginning July1, 2011 for an initial three year term, with possibility of renewal.Primary duties include teaching five courses per year including elementary(2 courses) and intermediate (2 courses) in Dutch using an integratedskills approach. The fifth course will focus on literary, social,political, cultural and/or sociolinguistic topics related to the targetlanguage (as determined on the basis of the appointee's qualifications andexpertise). The Lector will develop the broad curriculum and the pedagogicmaterials for the Dutch language and culture. He/She will advise studentsand participate in building a program of Dutch Studies within the GermanDepartment and the European Studies Council at Yale University, especiallyby developing overseas language and other study opportunities.
Applicants must have: 1) native or near-native fluency in Dutch; 2) strongEnglish communication skills; 3) experience in teaching Dutch in a collegeor university environment; 4) an M.A. or other advanced degree (e.g.applied linguistics, teaching Dutch as a Second Language, or other relevantfields); and 5) demonstrated ability and enthusiasm for languageinstruction. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of overseas languageand related study opportunities and resources, experience withtechnology-enhanced language learning, and demonstrated commitment to thebroader field of Dutch Studies and/or other relevant disciplines andregions. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
