Description:

Applications are invited for Research Associate or Linguistics Consultantpositions in the Language and Linguistics Lab, Department of ComputerScience at Brandeis University to work on a large-scale Chinese languageprocessing project funded by the U.S. Government. The Research Associate orLinguistics Consultant is expected to perform syntactic, semantic, anddiscourse analysis on Chinese language data such as newswire, broadcastnews, and weblogs. The Research Associate/Linguistics Consultant isexpected to initially work on a part-time basis, and if there is mutualinterest and upon availability of additional funding, the ResearchAssociate/Linguistics Consultant will continue either on a full-time orpart-time basis, depending on individual circumstances.

Qualifications:- Native or near-native level of proficiency in Mandarin Chinese- Strong interest in language and linguistics, enjoying working withlinguistic data- Comfortable working with computer Operating Systems such as Unix/Linuxand windows- Eligible to work in the U.S..- Able to commit at least 10 hours/week to the project- (preferable) some background in linguistics, especially in theoreticalsyntax, semantics, and/or pragmatics

Desirable traits/skills:- Living in Boston area or within commuting distance of BrandeisUniversity, Waltham, Massachusetts.- Programming skills with scripting languages such as Perl and Python.
