The Philological Faculty at the University of Leipzig invites applicationsfor a W2-Professorship in Linguistics: Varieties of English

We seek a candidate who will connect well with the strengths of ourdepartment of taking a holistic perspective on the subdisciplines ofEnglish, its attempt at relating synchronic variation and historicalchange, and its emphasis on empirical research methodologies (such asquantitative (corpus-based) analyses of language use and social factors).Expectations of teaching include: courses on varieties of English (B.A.,M.A., teacher training, graduate) and the development of new coursescontributing to the intended programme 'European Sociolinguistics'. We areparticularly interested in candidates with an expertise in I: WorldEnglish(es), social and regional varieties of English and II:Multilingualism and contact linguistics, who are familiar with non-Europeanvarieties of English.

Moreover, the ideal candidate would be expected to (1) develop an activeresearch program that includes an empirical dimension, and (2) contributeto the ongoing development of the university's central research area 4('Brain, Cognition and Language') and the interdisciplinary investigationscarried out there. Additionally, it is assumed that the candidate hasgained experience in the acquisition of external funding and theorganization of research in an international scope.
