Description:
Position in Teaching Arabic as a Foreign Language (TAFL): The Department ofArabic and Translation Studies in the American University of Sharjahinvites applications for a faculty position in Teaching Arabic as a ForeignLanguage (TAFL) at the rank of Assistant Professor and above beginning inthe fall, 2010. The successful candidate will have a PhD in AppliedLinguistics or Education or a closely related field, a native ornear-native proficiency in Arabic, while being able to teach in English.The language of instruction at AUS is English. Strong scholarlyrecord/potential and relevant teaching experience are expected.
Strong applicants with Master degrees (M.A.) in TAFL and considerableprofessional experience will be considered at the instructor rank.
Applicants should have experience in and/or familiarity with the NorthAmerican higher educational system, and experience in dealing with culturaland educational needs of a linguistically and culturally diverse studentpopulation. The ability to contribute to other courses offered by theDepartment (heritage and literary/cultural studies) will be a distinctadvantage.
