This research position at Macquarie University, Australia is fixed term forthree years, and is attached to an Australian Research Council-fundedproject on natural language generation for Aboriginal languages.

The researcher will be involved in all aspects of constructing adata-to-text system for the Aboriginal language Arrernte, taking as astarting point data from AFL ('Australian Rules') football. This willinclude a computational linguistic analysis of Arrernte, the constructionof a grammar for Arrernte in an appropriate formalism, and the building ofan English-language prototype system. Essential Selection Criteria for Level A: PhD (or submitted) inComputational Linguistics, Computer Science or a related area orequivalent; ability to program in a major language (e.g. Python, Java);ability to present research results at scientific meetings and to publishin the scientific literature; good written and oral communication skills.

Additional Essential Selection Criteria for Level B: PhD in a relevantarea; at least three years postdoctoral research experience or equivalent;established publication record.

Desirable Selection Criteria: basic knowledge of statistics and machinelearning; experience with computational linguistic formalisms (e.g. HPSG,LFG, TAG).

Package: From $78,277 pa, including base salary from $66,145 (Level A) or$74,654 (Level B), plus 17% employer's superannuation and annual leave loading.
