Indiana University in Bloomington is pleased to announce the availability offour new NIH Postdoctoral Traineeships. Post-docs are available to qualifiedPhD's in Linguistics and related fields who wish to further their backgroundand training in any of the following areas of basic and clinical research:
- Speech Perception and Spoken Word Recognition- Acoustic and Articulatory Phonetics- Laboratory Phonology- Speech Production and Links to Perception/Action- Perceptual, Cognitive and Linguistic Development- Psycholinguistics- Clinical Phonology and Sensory Aids for the Hearing Impaired- Multi-modal Speech Perception- Sociophonetics and Perception of Indexical Speech Information
The training program at IU welcomes individuals with backgrounds in areasrelated to Linguistics, as well as Speech and Hearing Sciences, Cognitiveand Developmental Psychology, Cognitive Science, Cognitive Neuroscienceand Cognitive Neuropsychology. Trainee salaries, consistent with current NIHguidelines, range from $38,496 to $53,112 plus a modest travel and researchexpense allowance.
Extensive laboratory facilities for research on spoken language processing,speech production and speech perception are available in the Departments ofPsychological & Brain Sciences, Speech & Hearing Sciences, andLinguistics on the Bloomington Campus of Indiana University and in theDepartment of Otolaryngology at the Indiana University School of Medicine inIndianapolis. Ample space is available including seminar rooms, shopfacilities as well as dedicated laboratory computer facilities for real-timeanalysis and generation of acoustic signals for behavioral research. Thetraining program has a large number of specialized workstations and a widevariety of dedicated microcomputers available for research. Trainees will beexpected to carry out original empirical and/or theoretical research in one ormore of the laboratories associated with the training program and collaboratewith the professors from the program, students, and other research scientistscurrently working in the laboratories in Bloomington and/or Indianapolis.
