Description:
The Department of Modern Languages invites applications for an open-ranktenure track position in Second Language Acquisition beginning in August2012. Of particular interest are candidates whose research focuses on oneor more of the following areas: cognitive dimensions of second languagelearning, language assessment, technology and second language acquisition,multilingual literacy development, contexts of second language learning.Successful candidates must have an earned Ph.D., display strong evidence ofresearch productivity, excellence in teaching, strong interest in graduatestudent mentoring and research supervision, potential for securingextramural funding, native or near-native proficiency in one or more of thelanguages offered in the Department (Arabic, Chinese, French, German,Italian, Japanese, Russian, Spanish), and interest in teaching courses bothin the graduate programs in SLA and in one of the language and culturalstudies areas of the Department. Teaching load is 2+2.
Applicants should send a letter of application (indicating, among otherthings, any professional conferences they plan to attend between November2011 and January 2012, (including the ACTFL meeting in Denver and the MLAmeeting in Seattle), resume, statements of teaching, research, andcurricular interests, and three (3) letters of recommendation (which may beincluded with the packet or sent directly by referees). Representativepublications, not to be returned, may also be included.
