Pending budgetary approval, the Department of Linguistics at the Universityof California, Berkeley has been authorized to make an appointment in syntaxat the rank of assistant professor (tenure-track). Salary will be commensuratewith experience; the Ph.D. is required by July 1, 2012, the starting date of theappointment. Duties will include undergraduate and graduate advising andteaching (four courses per year, in syntax and other areas of linguistics),supervision of student research, and development of a successful andoriginal research program.

Applicants should have a broad intellectual engagement with the field oflinguistics, a theoretically informed research specialization in syntax, anddemonstrated excellence in teaching. The ideal candidate's interests andexperience will intersect with existing research at Berkeley, and will includeeither a strong language area specialization or expertise in an allied field suchas formal semantics, typology or corpus linguistics.
