The Department of Linguistics and the Department of French & Spanish areseeking a joint tenure-track appointment.

The tenure track and regular term positions listed below will normallycommence July 1, 2012, subject to budgetary approval, and will be made atthe rank of Assistant Professor. All positions normally require a completeddoctoral degree in the ap-propriate discipline. A completed earned doctorate(or recognized terminal qualification in the discipline) is required for theappointee to receive the rank of Assistant Professor and to be in a tenure-track position. (If a successful candidate has not completed an earneddoctorate, he/she shall be appointed to a regular term, non-renewable three-year appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor. If the candidatecompletes all the requirements for the doctorate during the first 24 months ofthe term appointment, he/she shall begin a tenure-track appointment followingcompletion of the requirements of the degree.). Letters of application shouldbe sent to the Head of the appropriate department, accompanied by a currentcurriculum vitæ, a teaching dossier, the names and addresses of threepersons who can supply a letter of reference, and such additional materialsas may be specified below. The application must provide evidence ofexcellence in teaching and research. Applications should reach the Head nolater than October 28, 2011.

Qualifications are: Ph.D. (or near completion) in Linguistics, withspecialization in second language acquisition and the abili-ty to teach Frenchas a second language as well as courses in Linguistics in both English andFrench. Applicants should have a record of effective teaching and conduct anactive research program focusing on the acquisition of French as a secondlanguage. The successful applicant will be expected to teach French as asecond language as well as a range of courses in phonology, morphology andsecond language acquisition at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Theability to teach both in English and in French is a must. The successfulapplicant will also be expected to undertake graduate supervision in eitherdepartment, to maintain an active research program on the second languageacquisition of French, and to contribute to administrative duties in eachdepartment.
