Description:
The Linguistics Department at the University of Florida seeks to fill a facultyposition at the tenure-track level for an Assistant Professor of SecondLanguage Acquisition. The successful candidate will be expected to 1) teachcourses at the both undergraduate and graduate level related to area ofresearch expertise within SLA 2) contribute to teaching TESL courses for thedepartment's growing undergraduate TESL minor and certificate program(http://www.lin.ufl.edu/tesl/TESLminor.html), and graduate SLAT certificateprogram (http://www.lin.ufl.edu/slat.html) 2) participate actively in theacademic life of the department, college, and university and 3) maintain anactive research agenda. Research areas of particular interest include: appliedlinguistic approaches to second language acquisition, formal linguisticapproaches to second language acquisition and psycholinguistic /neurolinguistic approaches to second language processing.
Position begins August 2012. Required: Ph.D. in Second LanguageAcquisition or related field by time of employment; a demonstrated record ofaccomplishments in scholarship, including evidence for a future outstandingpublication record and the potential to create an internationally recognizedresearch program; and demonstration of effectiveness in teaching. ESL/EFLteaching and assessment experience, publications, and evidence of ability toattract external research funding preferred.
The Department of Linguistics at the University of Florida houses threeresearch labs related to language acquisition and/or linguistic processing,equipped for basic offline experiments, reaction time experiments, eye-tracking, ERPs as well as experimental phonetic/ phonology research:
