Description:

Applications are invited for postdoc/research associate positions in theDepartment of Computer Science at Brandeis University to work on alarge-scale Chinese language processing project funded by the U.S.government. The postdoc/research associate is expected to conduct researchin Chinese language processing, and/or performing syntactic and semanticanalysis on large-scale Chinese language data sets in a variety of genres.We are looking for either theoretical linguists who have a strong interestin computer processing of natural languages and have acquired significantprogramming skills, or computational linguists who are interested infundamental natural language processing problems such as sentence boundarydetection, word segmentation,part-of-speech tagging, syntactic parsing andsemantic role labeling.

Qualifications:- Ph.D. or M.A. in computational or theoretical linguistics, especially insyntax and lexical semantics- Native or near-native level of proficiency in Mandarin Chinese.Expertise in Chinese syntax and lexical semantics is especially valuable- Project mangagement skills and able to supervise a small team of annotators.- Programming skills in Python, Perl and/or Java- Comfortable working with Unix/Linux platforms
