Description:
The Department of Germanic and Slavic Studies at the University of Waterloo isaccepting applications for the position of Assistant Professor (tenure-track) inGerman, specialization in applied linguistics with a focus on multilingualismstudies. The successful candidate must have a PhD in hand by the time theappointment begins on 1 July 2012 and an actively developing research programin the specified field. Duties include research, teaching at the undergraduate andgraduate levels, supervision of graduate students, and service to thedepartment, university, and discipline.
German Studies at the University of Waterloo is a robust enterprise offeringprograms leading to the BA, MA, and PhD in German. The current staff of eighttenured professors possesses expertise in applied linguistics (second languagedevelopment and pedagogy, sociolinguistics, and CALL), German and Austrianliterature (18th-20th centuries), and film and visual studies. The department ishome to the Waterloo Centre for German Studies, an endowed research institutethat also operates a range of intellectual and cultural programming. Theuniversity, rated the most innovative university in Canada for many yearsrunning, is located in one of the fastest growing regions of the country.
