Assistant Professor, with specialization in second language acquisition, twopositions (position numbers 82418 and 82462), University of Hawai'i at ManoaCollege of Languages, Linguistics and Literature, full-time, tenure track. TheDepartment of Second Language Studies offers a BA, an MA and a PhD inSecond Language Studies as well as an Advanced Graduate Certificate. TheUniversity of Hawai'i is a Carnegie 'very high research activity university' witha strong orientation to the Asia-Pacific region. The University supportsinterdisciplinary initiatives within and across departments and colleges andplaces high value on extramural funding.

Duties and responsibilities: The Department seeks to hire two facultymembers at the assistant professor level in the area of second languageacquisition to teach courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels in thearea of SLA, with opportunities to teach in other areas of the Department'scurriculum as appropriate.

Of particular interest are candidates whose research focuses on one or moreof the following areas: acquisition of SL phonology; bilingualism in social andcognitive contexts; cognitive, sociocultural, neurological and ecologicalperspectives in SL learning; heritage language learners; identity and SLA;individual differences in SLA; instructed SLA; multilingual literacydevelopment; technology and SLA; young learners.

Minimum qualifications: Doctorate in second language studies, appliedlinguistics, or closely related field by August 2012. Demonstrated ability tocarry out research in the applicant's major areas of specialization, asevidenced by publication.

Annual 9-month salary range: Commensurate with qualifications andexperience
